Boys study reading and writing the koran at the Khalifa Mosque Koranic School in Omdurman. Most come from outside Sudan. They live at the school, devoted to reading and memorising the Koran. Writing out extracts onto wooden boards. They go on to higher institutes of Islam learning and may become Imams or Islamic scholars.
