Artwork by Ahmed Abdel Aal. Ahmed Abdel Aal (1946-2008) was born in Kassala, in the east of Sudan. He Studied art at the College of Fine and Applied Arts in Khartoum (previously the School of Design, Gordon Memorial College) and the University of Bordeaux in France. In the 1970s and 1980s he was the main figure among the second generation of the Khartoum School art movement. Later, he founded al-Wahid School art movement, exploring the expression of basic concepts of Islam through artistic visual language. Elaborating on his aesthetic philosophy, derived from the Sufi philosopher Ibn Arabi, he published numerous books on art and literature. Ahmed Abdel Aal died in 2008.
