The Sudanese Association for Archiving Knowledge (SUDAAK) is an NGO that concerns itself with the protection and promotion of Sudanese culture and information.
The Sudanese Association for Archiving Knowledge (SUDAAK) is an NGO that concerns itself with the protection and promotion of Sudanese culture and information, in particular with archiving Sudanese life in history, politics, folklore, culture and Intellectual Heritage. SUDAAK leads an alliance of public and private cultural and historical institutions. Its membership represents a wide spectrum of government departments concerned with: culture and information; universities and other educational institutions; journalists; local companies with an interest in Sudanese culture; Sudan Radio and TV Corporation; telecommunication companies; local photographic studios.
SUDAAK provides the secretariat for the National Team for the Digitisation of Cultural Heritage in Sudan, and has issued major publications on Sudanese culture. For example, Traditional Tuti (in partnership with: the US Embassy; the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Tuti Cultural Forum), which documents the changing culture of Tuti Island, situated at the conjunction of the Blue Nile and the White Nile, and the Shambat Photo Book (in partnership with Al-Niema, an active local cultural organisation of the city of Shambat in Khartoum North). In 2005 SUDAAK managed to obtain observer status with the Intergovernmental Committee of the World Intellectual Property Organization. Further to this, SUDAAK is a signatory of the Budapest Open Access Alliance and enjoys the membership of the UNESCO Cultural Alliance Forum.
SUDAAK’s role in the Sudan Memory project, as a leading partner, has been liaison, promotion, training and support. SUDAAK will be the figurehead to continue Sudan Memory beyond the initial 2017-21 phases of the project.
