Beja Cultural Studies Centre

Professor Muhammad al-Hasan Sidi has established a personal collection of Beja cultural items from the Red Sea region of Sudan. His collection includes over 100 items, and some of these are over 100 years old. These items range from traditional handicrafts to jewellery, clothing, kitchenware, traditional camel saddles and weapons, to name a few examples. Professor Sidi is from the ancient local Arteiga tribe (one of the Beja tribes), and has a lifelong interest in heritage and Beja culture. A selection of his collection items were photographed in collaboration with Sudan Memory in 2020 and are presented here.
